In this role, you’ll spearhead the development, execution, and assessment of residents’ nutritional needs, fostering an environment that upholds their autonomy, independence, dignity, and privacy. Your commitment to continual learning and embracing innovation will drive health promotion through a person-centred lens. You’ll collaborate closely with the Food Services team to establish and maintain comprehensive records, ensuring adherence to nutritional and therapeutic requirements. Additionally, you’ll champion a nutrition and food services audit program in alignment with the Medical Health Officer’s standards while leading quality improvement initiatives. Serving as a knowledgeable resource for the community, you’ll provide guidance on nutrition, swallowing disorders, caloric intake, and more, facilitating education for team members in partnership with the education team. Located along the beautiful shores of Okanagan Lake, in the heart of stunning Okanagan Valley, Kelowna is an inviting community in which to live and work.   • Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition from a recognized university. Dietetic internship from an accredited program
  • Current full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC) and registration with Restricted Activities A and B.
  • Two years of recent related long-term care experience or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
  • Member of or eligible for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate

*This position entails one day a week, with the potential for additional hours. You’ll also be tasked with covering vacation shifts when needed.

 

As the Dietician, you play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and evaluating residents’ nutritional requirements and service provision. You ensure compliance with regulations and standards, oversee menu planning, and provide consultation on nutrition-related matters. By leading quality improvement initiatives, you promote person-centred care and serve as a role model for the Wellness Model. Your responsibilities include maintaining confidentiality, participating in various meetings and training, and fostering positive relationships among residents, team members, and community partners. By upholding health and safety standards, you demonstrate safe practices, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with infection control policies.

 

  • Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition and a graduate of an approved Dietetic Internship

JOB DESCRIPTION
As a regulated health professional, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating the clinical aspects of residents’ nutritional care, in keeping with the Program Standards.


• Expected salary range: $95,000 to 97,000
• Either full time or part time
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
• Complete initial assessments, identifying the level of nutritional risk and developing appropriate interventions on all new residents;
• Complete resident Nutritional Assessments; including quarterly assessments and follow up documentation and interventions as needed;
• Continued monitoring and follow-up as required, assess and evaluate on a regular basis, residents need for texture modified diets and nutritional supplements;
• Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and participate in the development and evaluation of specified nutrition care plans which includes an assessment of the resident’s needs, realistic goals and approaches and an evaluation of the outcome of the nutrition care provided;
• Will be an active member of the wound care team;
• Review all resident weights minimum monthly with care team;
• Initiate appropriate interventions and documentation as necessary;
• Modify regular menu or creates special menu as needed for individualized special diets and review and sign off seasonal menus;
• Liaise with Food Service Manager and Supervisor in kitchen procedures, resident nutrition and menu items and planning.
