If you’re like me, you’re probably scrambling for last minute Christmas gift ideas this week.
We hosted a holiday mixer for health professionals last month and made these holiday gift jars together – these gift jars are easy to make using your pantry staples, beautiful and most importantly, delicious !
You can make them easily at your home for gifting or make it together at your holiday party as to create memories and connections with your family and loved ones. We’ve compiled the recipes, gift tag instruction templates here for you.
Important tips before you start assembling these holiday jars :
- We use pint jars for all our holiday jars here.
- Use a funnel to pour each ingredient into the jar to avoid spills. You want to make sure the jar is full so the layers don’t mix.
- Use a tamper to pack down the ingredients after each layer for the cookie and soup mix jars.
- Decorate your jar with the cooking instruction tags and any ribbons, stickers, message cards, or decorations you like.
1. DIY Cookie in a Jar (Glulten-Free option available)
These little mason jars are so easy to make and turn out so pretty!
We love this white chocolate oatmeal cookie recipe which literally takes 5 minutes to assemble and 12-15 minutes to bake.
This will sure be a popular and thoughtful gift for those friends who love to bake, you can easily modify the toppings to make it even more festive such as swapping the white chocolate with crushed candy canes or mini marshmallows or shredded coconut.
We have tested out the gluten-free option as well and it was a success, be sure to use gluten-free oats if you are making the GF option.
How to assemble the cookies in a jar
Place ingredients in this order:
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour or gluten-free flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup regular or gluten-free rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup dried raisins or craisins
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
Makes 9-10 cookies
1. Preheat oven to 350° F
2. Line cookie sheet with a parchment paper
3. Whisk together dry ingredients.
4. Make a well in the middle.
5. Mix in 3 Tbsp melted butter, 1 egg and 1 Tbsp vanilla.
6. Gently fold until all ingredients are mixed.
7. Using a tablespoon, scoop 2 Tbsp sized balls onto your lined cookie sheet.
8.Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
8. Take it out and let cool for 5 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
2. DIY Coconut Curry Soup Mix
‘Tis the soup season!
What better idea than to give a jar of ready-to-go soup mix with cooking directions on the gift tag for those friends and family who don’t have a sweet tooth.
Not only does this DIY soup mix look amazing with all the different colors from the red and green lentils and contrasting colors from shredded coconut and brown rice.
This gluten free, plant based recipe will give a warm, nourishing meal for the whole family.
We can all use a little extra help with meal prep during this busy season!
How to make the coconut curry soup in a jar
Place ingredients in this order:
- ¾ cup Red Lentils
- ¾ cup Green Lentils
- 1 Tbsp Curry Powder
- 2 Tbsp Onion soup mix
- 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 Tbsp Parsley
- 1 Tbsp Dehydrated Veggies
- 3 Tbsp Shredded Coconut
- 1/4 cup Brown Rice
You want to fill the jar up and use a temper to pack the ingredients down after each layer. There should be no space left at the top of the jar otherwise the ingredients will move around and the layers won’t look as nice!
Makes 4-6 servings
1. In a saucepan, sauté 1 cup of chopped carrots and celery.
2. Add in soup mix with 4 cups of chicken or vegetable broth in a saucepan.
3. Add in 1 can (14oz) coconut milk and bring to a boil.
4. Simmer until lentils are tender and soup is becoming thick, about 20 mins. Stir occasionally.
5. Serve warm with bread or crackers.
3. Allergen-Friendly Granola Mix
Place ingredients in any order:
- 1 cup Roasted Rolled Oats or Plain Granola
- ¼ cup Craisins or Raisins
- ¼ cup Chocolate Chips
- ¼ cup Pumpkin Seeds or Salad Topper
- 1 Tbsp Shredded Coconut
- 1 Tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Salt
Write out the ingredients on the gift tag – you don’t need any cooking instructions for this one. This holiday jar is ready to eat with milk, in a smoothie bowl or as a yogurt topping!
